Google Apps Mobile Management: Devices

Editions Supported: Google Apps Mobile Management is only available for Google Apps for Business, Education, and Government. To access the Devices tab, sign in to your Google Admin console, click Settings at the top, clickMobile in the left navigation menu, and then click Devices. On the Devices tab, you can search and view all activated Android and Google Sync mobile devices in your domain. Android devices need to have the Device Policy app installed and enabled for them to show up in this tab. If your organization has many devices activated, the view is paginated, and you can search for specific users and devices, as well as sort different columns, for different views of your mobile fleet. For searching tips, see Search for Mobile Devices. For more information about managing devices, see this video on mobile management.Android devices without the Device Policy app enabled on them, BlackBerry devices, and mobile phones connecting to Google Apps through only IMAP or POP will not show up in the Devicestab.

Using the Devices tab

When you hover over a device, a hovercard appears with more details on the device, including Name, Email, Device ID, Hardware ID, First Sync, and Last Sync. You can sort devices by Model, OS, Type, Last Sync, and Status. On the hovercard, you can also Block, Remote Wipe, Wipe account, and View Details. Learn more about the differences between Remote Wipe and Wipe account. In the Status column, you can also see if the device is being remotely wiped, Blocked, orApproved. A Blocked device still shows up in the Devices tab, but the user can't access their Google Apps data (mail, calendar, and contacts) from that device. If you block a user with this setting, the user can still access their mail, calendar, and contacts from a desktop computer. To disable access to a user's access their Google Apps data from any device (mobile or desktop computer) see Suspend users.Clicking View Details on the hovercard takes you to the user's General information page. On this page you can view information about the user's device. In the upper-right of the screen, you have buttons to Approve, Block, Remote Wipe, Wipe account, or Delete the device. If you've checked Enable application auditing on the Org Settings tab for Android devices, underApplications you can see what mobile apps your user has installed on their device which access their Google Apps data. Google Sync devices like iOS and Windows Phones will not display applications.Search for Mobile DevicesFrom the search box in the Devices tab, you can search for devices being used in your domain by user name, email, and type of device.Sorting: Click the heading of a column to sort by different criteria. Click the heading again to reverse the sort order. Note: Sorting the Status column groups the devices by status, but the order is not alphabetical.Export All: The Export All button to the right of the search box allows you to export a csv file of all of the devices synced to your domain with the following information: Device ID, Name, Email, Model, OS Type, User Agent, Type, Last Sync, First Sync, and Status. If you have many devices in your domain, exporting data can be slow. Please be patient.Running basic searches: To run a mobile device search, enter your query in the search field near the top of the screen, and then click Search.Enter each search term as a single word with no spaces, or enter several words in quotes for exact phrases. Typing words and phrases into the search box searches all fields.Searches are case insensitive, and punctuation is generally treated as white space within a search. For example, running a search for admin@yourdomain.com is the same as entering the words "admin yourdomain com".To Search within a specific field: enter an operator followed by an argument. For example, user:joesabia. You can use single words or quoted lists of words as an argument when running an operator query.Follow these guidelines for how to search for specific device information:Search OperatorsSyntaxSearches for ...Example searchesapps:appApps on users' Android devices ifapplication auditing is turned onapps:Calendarapps:"com.android.mms"apps:"4.0.4-253145"email:addressThe email address (as a phrase)email:joe@example.commatchesjoe.sabia@example.comandjoe.sciarrillo@example.orghid:stringHardware IDhid:A0000292789YDid:stringThe given device serial number, case-insensitiveid:12345ABCDEFXYZmodel:nameName of the model of the devicemodel:"nexus s"name:wordsThe given words in user namesname:joe matches nameJoe Sabia but not Joel Ortiz.name:"Joe Sabia" matches name Joe Sabia and Joe Sabia Daniels but not Joey Sabia or Joe The Pun Champ Sabia.os:nameName of the mobile operating systemos:Androidos:"ios 5"register:time_rangeDevices that were registered in the given time rangeregister:2011-03-23register:..2011-04-05T13:42:00status:statusDevices with the given status in their provisioning with Google AppsSupported values: pending, approved, blocked, wiping, wiped, unprovisioned, unknown.sync:time_rangeDevices whose last policy sync was in the given time rangesync:2011-03-23sync:2011-03-23..2011-04-05T13:42:00type:stringThe type of devicetype:androidtype:googlesyncFormat of date/timeThe time range in the above operators can have the following forms:FormSearches ...Example searchesdatetimeExactly on the given date or time2011-03-232011-04-26T14:23:05datetime..datetimeWithin (inclusive) the given interval of date or time2011-03-23..2011-04-26datetime..On or after the given date or time2011-04-26T14:23:05....datetimeOn or before the given date or time..2011-04-26T14:23:05The date/time is a UTC specified using a simplified form of ISO 8601: YYYY-MM-DD or YYYY-MM-DDThh:mm:ss where the hour is in the range [0, 23] (24-hour system). How helpful is this article:
